Marketing and Outreach Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION About Kupu Kupu is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that aims to empower youth to serve their communities through character building, service learning, and environmental stewardship. Kupu aims to train and equip young adults in Hawaiʻi and throughout the Pacific Rim with work skills, life skills, and knowledge to help them become successful as individuals and as part of the greater community. Kupu is staffed by people with a heart to better Hawaii while working as a team with a purpose of doing what is pono and doing what is best for Hawaiʻi and its people. and others.” Position Duties The Marketing and Outreach Manager position is a full-time position that includes, but is not limited to, the following duties: • Recruiting o Work with program managers to:  Develop and execute annual recruitment strategy and action items for Kupu Programs  Coordinate, Schedule, and assign staff/interns to recruiting trips/presentations  Track program application numbers and demographics and ensure targets and deadlines are met  Identify and connect with all possible recruiting opportunities/audiences o Attend recruiting events, fairs, and presentations o Train staff and interns to assist with recruiting & outreach o Design and distribute recruiting flyers, email announcements, and informational packets for Kupu Programs o Post and remove program applications and information to the website according to program recruiting periods and application deadlines o Create and manage recruiting advertisements on the web, print and radio • Outreach o Serve as the point of contact for all inquiries regarding outreach opportunities o Increase opportunities to partner with other youth/environmental organizations o Coordinate, schedule and attend general outreach events and presentations o Conduct monthly outreach meetings to ensure outreach goals are met o Manage outreach equipment and displays o Train other staff and interns to assist with outreach o Supervise volunteers and office interns assisting with marketing and outreach tasks o Maintain and develop additional external outreach resources, including the Green Guide, Eco Job/Internship Listing, and Green Calendar o Assist with creating/designing flyers or other print materials • Public Relations/Marketing o Prepare/train staff for media interaction and serve as media advisory o Draft and distribute Press Releases and media pitches o Schedule media interviews and appearances o Create marketing pitches, speeches, quotes or other content on behalf of company o Create and maintain a media-ready Press Kit o Serve as the point of contact for all inquiries regarding general marketing and branding, and ensure brand, voice and image are maintained at all times o Gather and manage media coverage, testimonials and other stories • Communications o Manage content on the website and social media accounts o Track analytics and make improvements as needed o Maintain contact database o Develop content for and send out quarterly newsletter and other email campaigns o Create and launch social media campaigns and contests o Keep current printed materials up to date, and design other graphic materials o Gather, manage, edit, and publicly share photo and video collections o Serve as the designated photographer and videographer for various events and organization needs • Event Planning o Serve as the lead planner for bi-annual community service events o Secure and manage work site, budget, logistics, paperwork and supplies for community service events o Work with Development Manager to secure sponsor for community service events o Attend and lead community service events, manage all attending Kupu Staff and serve as a liason between sponsor, Kupu, and work site o Design community service event flyers, email announcements, and other media needs o Recruit appropriate amount of community volunteers for the service events o Serve as an assistant planner for annual Environmental Fair and Awards • Other o Develop and carry-out a strategy and benchmarks to improve Kupu’s reach and brand in the community o Manage outreach and marketing budgets as well as assist with purchasing o Recruit and manage Kupu’s office volunteers o Other duties as needed Position Requirements The Marketing and Outreach Manager must meet the following minimum requirements: • Available full-time, Monday through Friday, as well as occasional weekends, evenings and periodic neighbor island travel • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, PR, journalism or related field • Experience with managing web and social media content and creating basic graphic materials • Working knowledge of basic HTML • Experience in event or program planning • Skilled in Microsoft Office • Detail-oriented and organized • Strong creative and technical writing skills • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude • Ability to work independently and multi-task • Ability to show good judgement and solve problems effectively • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills Preferences The Marketing and Outreach Manager is preferred, but not required, to have the following: • 2-3 years of experience in outreach, PR or marketing • Experience in media relations • Knowledge of conservation-related issues and education/career opportunities in Hawaii • Experience in public speaking and presentations for both youth and adult audiences • Background in graphic design or photo/video editing and related programs (Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, iMovie, Final Cut, etc.) • Experience with MailChimp or other Email Marketing Service • Experience in supervising volunteers • Experience with writing blogs, newsletters, or other publications • Experience with WordPress Marketing and Outreach Manager Reports To: Director of Impact Compensation and Benefits: Starting at $35,000, based on education and experience level.
