INVASIVE SPECIES FIELD ASSOCIATE I – ID# 15520 (3) Regular, F/T position w/ the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit in Maui. Duties: Conducts field operations to implement est. action plans, targeting invasive alien plant & animal species for control or eradication. Fldwrk involves reconnaissance, surveys & mech./chem. removal for invasive alien species in natrl., urban & suburban areas. Implements prtcl. to prevent seed dispersal, follows decontamination prtcl. & conducts operations according to accepted safety standards. Keeps records of treatment & control works. Operates GPS. Inputs & updates data. Assists w/ public relation activities. Contributes to creating & preserving positive work environment. Requires: High School Dipl. or G.E.D. equiv. Basic knowl. of Hawaiian biota/ntrl. history & threats from incipient alien plant & animal invasions in Hawaii. Knowl, of fld act. Rel. to ntrl. res. mgmt. Knowl. of ID of common native Hawaiian plants & intr. weed species. Good oral & written comm. skills. Ability to read maps & aerial photos & doc. work. Ability & exper. working w/ small, mech. equipment (chain saws, etc.) Basic comptr. skills. Valid driver’s license & able to drive 4WD vehicle w/ manual transmission. Ability to lift & carry up to 50 pounds unassisted. Ability to hike & camp in remote areas & rugged up to 5 days Post Offer/Emplt. Cond.: Am.
