Coordinate and staff a locally based working group. This includes formalizing a South Kohala Working Group, starting with the existing South Kohala Conservation Action Plan (SKCAP) team; planning and facilitating Working Group meetings in coordination with the Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) planner; assisting with the development of the meeting agendas and logistics; documentation and distribution of minutes; and working with DAR and the Working Group to draft grant proposals to implement actions in the three major planning documents identified for South Kohala. (http://hawaiicoralreefstrategy.com/index.php/prioritysites/southkohala) Organize and lead local stakeholder engagement related to Phase I implementation of South Kohala projects. Efforts include identifying and engaging stakeholders active in the region including agency staff, businesses, landowners, residents, fishers, and recreators and presenting preliminary information about conservation and restoration strategy development. Also, the coordinator will develop and implement strategic communication strategies regarding SKCAP projects and host bi-annual outreach and progress meetings with community groups engaged in coastal or marine stewardship activities.

Review, synthesize, and communicate reports, research materials and study findings relevant to S. Kohala watershed management. These efforts include, but are not limited to conducting relevant background research, consulting and engaging scientists, focal experts, resource managers and community partners to provide unbiased technical information to decision makers and local stakeholders relating to the application of responsible coastal management principles to the development and implementation of conservation and restoration actions.

Assist with project oversight. This includes regularly updating DAR staff and the Working Group on project status; responding to inquiries from the public and media; scheduling and conducting site visits for projects underway; coordinating partner recognition; and participation in project events.

Manage project reporting. Produce annual performance reports and work plans that satisfy the granting agency, UH Sea Grant and the National Sea Grant Office reporting requirements and attend quarterly UH Sea Grant staff meetings.

Work with other Sea Grant agents and designated partners operating in Hawaii. Collaborate on conservation and sustainability activities and facilitate implementation where consistent with the South Kohala CAP.
