Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

The Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research (JIMAR)/Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center Hawaiian Monk Seal Research Program (HMSRP) has been exploring new directions for staffing monk seal research field camps in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands (NWHI). As part of an effort to recruit more locally-based personnel, we are seeking two individuals to volunteer with our program during the fall and spring (and possibly beyond) for approximately 10 hours/week. Work hours are flexible, but must be between approximately 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Selected individuals will receive training and experience to work with Hawaiian monk seals and will assist program staff in various activities such as data collection and entry, specimen archiving and processing, bleaching seals for identification, assisting with necropsies, etc. and will become better prepared to apply for a position as a monk seal field camp volunteer, which we will recruit for at a later time.
