Context This position seeks to increase the capacity of the chapter by engaging volunteers in activities that further the chapter’s mission, designing and implementing educational campaigns to achieve the chapter’s goals, and supporting the overall efficiency of the chapter-organization. Scope This position carries out the conservation program priorities and goals of the Chapter Executive Committee, as directed by the Chapter Director. In addition, this position provides support as needed for chapter operations, volunteer activities, and fundraising. This is a full-time position for two years with the opportunity to extend depending on the availability of funding and stellar job performance. Responsibilities Supports the Director in implementing the short and long term strategic, programmatic, and financial goals of the Chapter. Works with volunteers in the planning and implementation of core conservation efforts and programs, including clean energy, clean water, habitat conservation, solid waste reduction, and outdoor education. Designs and implements effective conservation and education programs that achieve the chapter’s goals and priorities. Supports the various outings programs of the chapter, including group outings programs, High School Hikers, and Hawai‘i Service Trip Program, with communications, outreach, and networking. Recruits, motivates, and supports volunteers to further the goals and priorities of the chapter, including training volunteers on the effective use of communication tools. Attends and facilitates meetings, events, and other opportunities for engaging members, supporters, and the public. Cultivates partnerships with peer organizations that reflect the chapter’s priorities and goals. Supports implementation of the chapter’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. Supports the operational efficiency of the chapter, including maintenance of our database, website, social media, and other community relations tools. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by Director. Knowledge & Skills Bachelor of Arts or Science in Environmental Studies, Political Science, Communications, or other related field. At least 3 years of experience in grassroots community organizing, volunteer support and training, and coalition building. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Specialized knowledge and background in specific issue areas of the environmental field related to assigned programs and campaigns, such as clean energy. Demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers and in large and small groups. Highly self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to work independently towards goals. Experience and interest in outdoor education and activities.
