Malama Maunalua is seeking a Habitat Restoration Coordinator (the Coordinator) to ensure the health Maunalua Bay’s near-shore environment is improving. The removal of invasive alien algae is one of Malama Maunalua’s two priority goals for Maunalua Bay. This position will be responsible for coordinating 3000+ volunteers a year to strategically remove invasive alien algae through the Huki Program (huki means ‘to pull’ in Hawaiian) and to work with agencies, academia, and NGOs on sea grass transplantation and other restoration strategies. The job will also entail coordinating the effort to monitor the effectiveness of the removal of the invasive algae, transplantation of native sea grasses, and other tools on restoring the habitat and associated ecosystem.
