DUTIES SUMMARY
As the division chief, the sole position in this class has responsibility for administering the State’s aquatic natural resources programs. The administration of the division’s functions and operations is accomplished through the supervision of branch managers and supervisors.
The position has statewide responsibility for planning, administering, directing and coordinating the activities and operations necessary for the conservation, development, and management of the State’s aquatic natural resources. Program functions include conserving, protecting, and enhancing the State’s renewable resources of aquatic life and habitat; managing commercial and non-commercial use of the State’s aquatic resources; and enhancing opportunities for public recreational fishing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Basic Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in one of the following: 1) Natural resources management, forestry, wildlife management or other related natural resource management major; 2) Botany, zoology, wildlife biology, entomology, or other related natural resource science major; or 3) Environmental studies with an area of concentration related to natural resource management.
Specialized Experience: Four years of progressively responsible professional work experience in one or a combination of the following: 1) Management, utilization and/or conservation of aquatic natural resources; 2) Protection of aquatic natural resources against disease, animals, or other depredations; 3) Applied research and analysis directly applicable to the development, protection, and management of aquatic natural resources; or 4) Resource planning for the development, protection, and management of aquatic natural resources.
At least one year of the work experience must have been comparable in scope and level of complexity as the class Aquatic Biologist V level in the State service.
The Aquatic Biologist V in State service independently provides advisory and consultative service on fishery management methods and optimum utilization of the fisheries resources, initiates, schedules and implements resource surveys; performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Experience: One year of work experience which included: 1) planning, organizing, scheduling, and directing the work of others; 2) assigning and reviewing their work; 3) advising them on difficult work problems; 4) training and developing subordinates; and 5) evaluating their work performance.
Managerial Experience: One year of professional experience which involved responsibility for identifying program goals and objectives and evaluating their attainment; planning, organizing, and coordinating program activities to attach program objectives within time, resource and budgetary limitations; identifying resource needs (staffing, materials, equipment); and actively participating in program planning, policy determination and budget formulation and execution.
