Wildlife Rehabilitation Technician

SPECIFIC DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: ⋅ Assist in the maintenance and sanitation of the indoor and outdoor facilities and pool systems. ⋅ Initial exams, triage and critical care. ⋅ Assists staff with handling of animals and serving the public. ⋅ Transport ailing or injured birds island wide as needed, using HWC vehicle or personal vehicle, if HWC vehicle is not available. ⋅ Perform other duties as assigned to ensure a positive public image and to enhance the operation of the organization and improve the quality of life for animals. ⋅ Assist Wildlife Rehabilitation Manager in training and overseeing volunteers and interns. REQUIREMENTS: • Must have a good attitude and be able to handle stressful situations in a calm and professionalmanner. • Must have a minimum of one years experience working in a wildlife rehabilitation center or equivalent animal care facility, preferably with avian species. • Must be capable and knowledgeable of indoor and outdoor cage maintenance. • Must be willing and able to work daily with (wild animals) and have a good understanding of natural history and (wild animal) behavior. • Must be flexible and capable of working independently and as a team. • Must have compassion and concern for both wildlife and people. • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Hawaii drivers license with no record of major or repeated minor traffic offenses. • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. • Must be able to handle physically rigorous work, including working long hours. Schedule will include working days, evenings, weekends and holidays. • Must be legally entitled to work in the United States • Must be able to take direction and carry out assignments in a timely manner. • Candidatesmust be willing and able to travel throughout the island for bird transportation and supplies.
