The National Tropical Botanical Garden has an immediate opening for a full time Living Collections Specialist at our Limahuli Garden and Preserve location in Haena, Kauai. This is a professional level position that requires candidates have a demonstrated background in horticulture and a passion for Hawaii native and culturally significant plants along with the ability to be a major collaborator within the Limahuli team. This position is responsible for the Garden’s documented plant collections. A major focus is the maintenance of the biological health and physical aesthetics of each individual specimen, while creating botanical settings that are in alignment with the highest standard of a world class botanical garden. Specific duties include pruning, watering, weeding, mulching/composting, nursery maintenance and care, propagation and out planting, installation and maintenance of irrigation system, integrated pest management, maintaining plan records, equipment maintenance and assisting with special projects and grounds work. Candidates must be physically capable of completing the tasks mentioned, lifting up to 50 lbs and working outdoors in variable weather conditions on a daily basis. Previous hands on experience working in a field directly related to the duties listed above is required. Degree in a related field a plus. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test upon offer of employment.
