MISC INVASIVE ANT COORDINATOR – ID# 15278.  Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC), located on Maui, Hawaii.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.  MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $3,039-$5,395/Mon.  DUTIES:  Coordinates and oversees invasive ant response activities in Maui County.  Implements survey, eradication, and mitigation plans for invasive ants. Allocates appropriate resources and monitors outcomes.  Serves as the primary Maui County liaison with the Hawaii Ant Lab (HAL).  Collaborates with state and federal officials as well as those from related agencies to promote invasive ant issues within Hawaii.  Coordinates, conducts, and leads field survey and control efforts for invasive ants.  Keeps accurate and detailed records of survey, treatment, and control work.  Prepares maps and regular updates for partner agencies and the public.  Conducts outreach, education, and training programs for a wide variety of audiences on management of invasive ants, pest detection, and mitigation.  Negotiates with landowners to obtain and maintain permission for field operations and constructively resolves conflicts that might occur.  Supervises Ant Detection Dog Team and sets survey priorities for the team.  PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biological Sciences or a Resources Management/Conservation related field.  EXPERIENCE:  One to three (1-3) years of work experience in field activities relating to invasive species control and/or resources management.  At least one (1) year of experience supervising field activities.  Experience communicating and coordinating with agency personnel, and private landowners.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of invasive species and conservation issues in Hawaii, invasive species control techniques and basic integrated pest management principles.  Knowledge of Hawaiian community, economy, and politics.  Knowledge of techniques for the safe and effective use of pesticides.  Knowledge of basic computer programs including databases and geographic information systems (GIS).  Knowledge of basic supervisory principles and techniques for motivating and providing feedback to others.  Excellent organizational, leadership, public relations, and communications skills as well as strong problem-solving, decision-making, interpersonal and management skills.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively in small teams and foster teamwork with a wide range of people.  Proven ability to manage several projects at once, make sound planning and logistical decisions, and respond appropriately to shifting operational plans.  Ability to read and navigate using topographic maps, state tax map keys (TMK), and aerial photographs, and use global positioning systems (GPS).  Ability to collect detailed field data, organize and summarize data, and write clear and concise reports.  Must be comfortable working around dogs.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain throughout the duration of employment. May be required to provide a clean driver’s abstract as deemed necessary by the job requirements and/or the project. Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission. If personal vehicle will be used for business purpose: Must possess proof of personal vehicle insurance and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must also provide the RCUH Human Resources Department with driver’s license information and keep current throughout the duration of employment.
