You participate in a range of duties related to monitoring Hawaiian coastal aquatic ecosystems. •Prepare for and collect hydrological and water quality data from anchialine pools using established ecological monitoring and QA/QC protocols, and conduct surveys of aquatic fauna. •Use standard sampling techniques to monitor basic water quality parameters in anchialine pools, fishponds, and wetlands. •Identify common anchialine pool fish, invertebrates (including snails, and shrimp), and algae to defined taxonomic levels; aid in the establishment and maintenance of permanent monitoring sites; digitally photograph, record, and download location of all field activities; download GPS data and create digital maps with ArcGIS; enter and compile data into spreadsheets and databases. •Maintain all sampling instruments and equipment and identify supply needs to ensure sampling and instrument calibration requirements are met. •Perform simple statistical analysis of water quality and other scientific data using statistical packages for technical reports, and write preliminary draft technical reports and field reports. •Interact with the public to provide information about park natural resources and natural resource program. •Generally works alone but occasionally will work alongside other technicians and cooperating scientists.
