HALE: Archeologist
Full Time
You serve as a professional Archeologist for Haleakala National Park. You professional knowledge and skill in the inventory, evaluation, protection, and management of prehistoric, historic, and traditional cultural values preserves the park’s cultural resources. Major duties include but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain the cultural resource information base for the park.
- Evaluate cultural resources and develop broad protection strategies and minimize human impacts.
- Provide cultural resource input on major, long-range planning documents.
- Coordinate implementation of cultural resource project (protection) plans.
- Design, implement, and supervise multi-phased archeological projects involving documentary, archival, and collections research; field survey and excavation; laboratory analysis of recovered data; and professional report writing.
- Prepare historic preservation documentation, compliance, and background materials for clearances, permits, licenses, etc., as required by law and policy.
- Recommend goals, objectives, and plans to direct the long-range protection and management of the park’s important cultural resources.
- Ensure National Historic Preservation Act compliance for park projects and operations.
- Supervise temporary museum or cultural resources staff.
