A temporary position with the OANRP as an Ungulate Management Field Worker (UMFW). Employees will conduct field work and occasional office work designed and planned by the Ungulate Management/Elepaio Stabilization Coordinator. The UMFW will implement ungulate management in the field including, but not limited to inspection, maintenance and repair of existing fences, assist with fence line route determination, ungulate surveys and control work. OANRP will provide training as needed to allow Field Workers to complete actions; this will include weed and native species identification, emergency response/first aid, and will include Unexploded Ordnance Training (UXO) training. Work sites are mostly on Army lands and select partner agency lands. Some activities will require working in areas with UXO. 60% Assists with the implementation of ungulate control strategies from the Management Unit (MU) plans (animal removal from MU fences which will include checking and setting of steel cable neck snares, animal population monitoring and reduction outside fences in collaboration with partner agencies). Ensures proper treatment of all animals. Abides by and implements all safety procedures and guidelines, utilizing all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when appropriate. 30% Assists with fence monitoring and maintenance. This may include some fence installation and minor repairs. Assists with clearing of non-native vegetation along fence corridors using weed trimmers and other power/hand tools and herbicides. Conduct field visits with partner agency representatives to assist in determining the best route for fences. Assists with fence materials distribution and participates in operations to move fence supplies and contracted crews into remote areas using helicopters (includes working with contract and military helicopters). 5% Baseyard work including but not limited to recording and reviewing data, documentation of day-to-day field work, maintaining field gear, baseyard grounds, vehicles, and other equipment, as needed. 5% Performs other duties as assigned.
