Assists in the propagation and maintenance of native Hawaiian plants, including rare, threatened, and endangered species. Under the direction of the Puuwaawaa Coordinator and Habitat Conservation Planner (HCP), manages plant pathogens and insect pests, conducts weed and rodent abatement activities, performs routine greenhouse maintenance and repairs, and follows greenhouse phytosanitary procedures and decontaminates plants prior to outplanting. Collects plant propagules in the field and keeps accurate seed collection and nursery records, and assists in the maintenance of the seed collection, plant propagation, and outplanting databases. In addition, assists in a variety of activities associated with the NKGHCP including: 1) controlling non-native plants through chemical and mechanical means, 2) coordinating and leading groups of volunteers and interns in outplanting activities to meet yearly outplanting goals, 3) checking and repairing conservation fences, 4) collecting and analyzing technical field data, 5) ordering supplies and materials for field projects, and 6) monitoring ungulates in the Plan Area. Adapts to changing plans and communicates observations and ideas to supervisors to help develop solutions to new and on-going challenges faced in implementing project goals.
