The multimedia journalist position is responsible for working with Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Communication Team to translate science stories for the broader public with image-based content for use in all news platforms. The journalist must be able to work across all science topics with an understanding and use of systems for direct-to-web production and engagement. Some expected duties include: - Making videos and other image-based content for use across all news platforms, existing and future, that is journalistically sound, visually compelling, and meets professional and technical standards - Performing fundamental editing functions to facilitate production demands - Developing story content that explains research on board Falkor through story writing and blogging. - Working independently and remotely, while maintaining operational communication with Schmidt Ocean Institute’s Communication Team - Working knowledge and use of cloud-based content management systems for direct-toweb production and engagement, including but not limited to uploading galleries and video to internal and external production, storage, sharing and web site content management systems -  Interacting with diverse academic and non-academic audiences on social media platforms, including story shares, objective commentary, promotion of Schmidt Ocean Institute’s research program and related content initiatives.
