Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (not to exceed twelve (12) months in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), Hawai‘i Coral Reef Initiative (HCRI), located at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (UHM), College of Social Sciences in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Telework (from employee’s residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,166.68 - $4,333.34/Mon.
DUTIES: Performs social science research for natural resource management projects linking human behavior to mauka and makai ecosystems, such as writing and editing proposals, project documents, and other written materials. Plans and conducts information gathering, interprets reports and other resources, and performs fact checking. Completes copy edits. Compiles and update project documents. Uses scientific methods to help solve problems and expand knowledge. Facilitates the completion of requirements with RCUH, UH, and sponsor conditions. Suggests improvements to workflows based on experience and observations to improve efficiency. Tracks research deliverables and other requirements across projects. Designs and creates special protocols for tasks such as data entry and analysis. Drafts project documents, spreadsheets, and correspondence. Develops an understanding of multiple and often conflicting perspectives connected to natural resource’s issues and applies this awareness. Communicates with DLNR, other partner agencies, and the public to facilitate information flow, scheduling, and planning across programs and projects. Coordinates and facilitates meetings and events. Documents proceedings for project records and distribution. Presents research findings to resource managers and other stakeholders. This is a progression series job in which the employee will be expected to perform with increasing independence on progressively responsible duties. Quantity and quality of work is expected to increase as levels increase. Progression from one (1) level to the next is not dependent on time-in-grade, rather upon employee’s demonstrated abilities, competence, and operational needs. Through experience, demonstrated competence, and operational needs, may be hired at the appropriate level.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION |
Bachelor’s Degree form an accredited four (4) year college or university. (High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and at least four (4) years of work experience may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree.). |
EXPERIENCE |
Three to four (3-4) years of work experience, with a significant amount of detail-oriented work in a project management or office administrative setting. Internships and volunteer experience may count towards experience. |
KNOWLEDGE |
Demonstrated competency with report writing and workshop and meeting logistics. Uses knowledge to perform tasks independently with minimal oversight, initiating communication with or requesting review from project lead when appropriate. |
ABILITIES & SKILLS |
Good oral communication skills. Ability to prepare written reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Suite, and web conferencing platforms. Ability to compile, assimilate, organize, and store electronic files. Ability to review, compile and analyze information to prepare reports. Ability to check work for accuracy before completion of tasks. Ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet multiple, frequent, and short notice deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Ability to build and maintain ongoing, collaborative, working relationships with coworkers to achieve the goals of the work unit. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months. |
POLICY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENT |

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of appropriate policies and procedures for day-to-day management of program administration and financial aspects of a program. Familiar with the administrative policies and procedures of UH and RCUH, and contracts and grants policies and procedures. |
