Position Overview

Island Conservation seeks a talented and motivated individual to serve as our Partnership Officer – Pacific. The successful applicant will, in consultation and collaboration with IC colleagues, lead the development and maintenance of relationships and strategies to mainstream island restoration as a mechanism for protecting biodiversity and culture, and improving climate resiliency and livelihoods within the Pacific. They will further IC and Pacific Region initiatives and projects, engaging established frameworks such as the Micronesia Challenge, the Pacific Regional Invasive Species and Climate Change (RISCC) Management Networks and the Predator Free Pacific (PFP) programme, among others.

This position reports to the Director of Partnerships. Some key responsibilities include:

• Coordinate closely with the Director of Partnerships, the U.S. and the South and West Pacific Heads of Operations, and their teams.
• Work in close collaboration with partners and allies to maximize the impact of regional and organizational strategies, encouraging and enabling Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTs) to accomplish their implementation. This includes:
  • Supporting PICT ownership of initiatives, projects, and their outcomes through effective engagement. Assess and adapt the approach as needed for maximum effectiveness.
  • Collaborating with PICTs to develop and support national priorities for invasive species eradication.
  • Fostering collaboration among funders, organizations, and agencies involved in island restoration efforts in the Pacific to ensure work programs are aligned and resourced.
  • Identifying capacity gaps and supporting capacity-building programs for PICTs and their communities, empowering them with the skills and knowledge required for best practice eradication and invasive species management.
  • Utilizing adaptive management approaches and strategies to drive continuous improvement of programs.
  • Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including PICT governments, community leaders, partner organizations, and funding agencies.
  • Advocate for the importance of invasive species management and eradication for island-ocean systems.
• Represent Island Conservation publicly at conferences, seminars, and official forums.
• Support Island Conservation’s positive work culture and align with our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles.

This is a full-time position with full benefits, including a four-day work week. The location is negotiable with preference for a candidate in one of the Pacific Island Countries or Territories. While dependent upon the location of the Pacific Partnership Officer’s duty station, the position requires approximately 30% travel with periods of 1-3 weeks away from the duty station.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• At least 3 years proven experience in stakeholder engagement, capacity-building initiatives, or project coordination, particularly within the context of conservation or environmental management.
• An understanding of invasive species management and rewilding conservation practices.
• Professional experience working directly in or with the Pacific region and a commitment to supporting and respecting regional cultural values and diversity.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Self-motivated and adaptable, able to work independently and as part of a productive, remote team.
• Proficient in project management, including monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.
• Previous experience in fundraising, grant writing, or donor relationship management.
• A broad knowledge of the region’s ongoing work, as well as the science, policies, and politics of conservation on islands is desirable.
• Language skills: Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. Proficiency in French or another language spoken in the Pacific is desirable.
