Conservation Tech
Hi`ipaka LLC, Waimea Valley on the North Shore of Oahu (Haleiwa) is seeking a Conservation Technician to work as part of our conservation team under the direction of the Conservation Field Supervisor. Responsibilities include the investigation, study, and maintenance of the ecological resources and ecosystems of Waimea Valley and the care and maintenance of the natural resources and botanical gardens in Waimea Valley.
Position Requirements:
· Knowledgeable about conservation issues and practices.
· Working knowledge regarding the propagation, selection, planting, maintenance, documentation, labeling, and mapping of botanical collections
· Ability to read site maps and landscape plans.
· Familiar with inventory control, labeling and database systems for resource collections.
· People-oriented and able to work well with others.
· Organized and self-starter.
· Exercise independent judgment to prioritize projects and respond to situations as they arise without direct supervision.
· Valid Driver’s License.
· Good oral and written communication skills.
· Professional demeanor.
Educational and Training Requirements:
· Degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, or related field preferred.
· Must have a minimum of one year work experience in land resource management, in a conservation field related to native forestry and native ecosystems.
· Prior experience with Hawaii conservation issues and knowledge of the use of GPS and GIS is preferred.
This is a full-time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Hi`ipaka LLC offers excellent benefits - medical, dental and vision coverage; 401K etc.
Waimea Valley is a seven-day-a-week operation and night and weekend work may be required.
