National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) is recruiting for a full-time Kahanu Preserve
Coordinator based at Kahanu Garden in Hana, Maui.

The Kahanu Preserve Coordinator will ensure all work done in the Preserve is in alignment with
NTBG goals and will be the liaison with key stakeholders in the Preserve including, but not
limited to, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Plant Extinction Prevention Program,
Maui Invasive Species Committee, Volunteers, independent contractors, and the Hāna community.
The Preserve Coordinator organizes and facilitates quarterly service-learning projects for
volunteer, education, cultural, and community groups; as well as the logistical planning for
research teams in the Preserve. This position will also be responsible for personally conducting
trail development, herbaceous weed control, and outplanting of native species.
Requirements:
● A Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent experience coordinating native forest
conservation
● Demonstrable experience in project management, and delivering project objectives.
● Three years of experience in manual, hands-on horticultural and conservation activities
● Familiarity with the Hawaiian language, culture, and a willingness to be sensitive to
archaeological sites on the property.
● Effective communication and interpersonal skills
● Familiarity with, and capable of conducting, appropriate IPM and predator control
methods.
