I. Summary of Position
The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator is an organized, detail-oriented, outgoing and caring individual whose primary role is to connect Mālama Learning Center (MLC) with community members and the public with the goal of building a broader and stronger base of volunteer and community support that results in action. The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will proactively recruit and train volunteers and interns, and work alongside them with the assistance of other MLC team members. The tasks for volunteers and interns may be in the field or behind the computer, varying by need and matched with the interests and capabilities of the volunteers and interns. The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will use a variety of techniques to engage people including social media and in-person or virtual presentations.
The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator serves MLCʻs mission, which is to inspire communities to care for Hawaiʻi by perpetuating conservation, culture, and sustainability through education. As teamwork is essential for all at MLC, whether working with staff, interns, and volunteers, the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will participate as a collaborative member of the MLC team. And as working with the community is core to this position, the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator must be dependable and good with people of all ages. While specific work hours may vary on a week-to-week basis, the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will be expected to work on average 35 hours per week that will typically include two Saturdays each month. As this and all MLC positions are largely funded by grants and contracts, its continuation will be dependent on the program’s success and results of fundraising efforts. The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will supervise interns and volunteers and will report directly to MLC’s ʻĀina Education Program Manager. Employment benefits include medical and dental insurance, paid time off, flexible work schedule, and compatibility with hybrid work locations. The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator will also be eligible to enroll in the Simple IRA retirement program.
