Job Summary

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the College of Social Sciences, Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), Hawai‘i  Coral Reef Initiative (HCRI) Research Program. Primary work location will be at the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) in Maui, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  $3,875/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Coordinates logistics for in-person, hybrid and online meetings with State and county agencies, partners, and communities (e.g., fishers, ocean users, scientists, residents) related  to Holomua. Liaises between Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) and communities. Develops content for public outreach, meetings, and workshops related to Holomua in collaboration with the Holomua Team. This could include strategic communication and media plans, reports, presentations, collateral materials, etc. Provides input on integrating local nearshore fishing values, knowledge, and management systems. Identifies means and listens to feedback on messages, activities, products, approaches, and outcomes from informal interactions with various audiences. Shares feedback with DAR, including for proposed nearshore management plans and actions. Facilitates or participates in workshops and meetings related to communities and nearshore resource management. Develops and maintains working relationships with State and county agencies, partners, and communities (e.g., fishers, ocean users, scientists, residents). Drives to attend meetings. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Communication, English, Planning, Public Policy, Natural Sciences, or related field.
EXPERIENCE: Two to four (2-4) years of work experience in communications, marketing, partnership building, or closely related field. Includes formal or informal experience working collaboratively with nearshore fishing communities.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of workshop and meeting logistics planning. Knowledge of principles and practices of research. Knowledge of effective communication and writing techniques. Knowledge and understanding of local nearshore fishing practices and culture.
ABILITIES & SKILLS: Ability to speak and write clearly, including the ability to analyze and clearly explain data, plans and policies, and draft reports requiring minimal review and editing. Ability to work independently or as part of a team and with diverse user groups, cultures, and personalities. Ability to respect varying perspectives and be a positive team player. Ability to remain calm and be flexible with changing aspects and needs of job while effectively meeting deadlines. Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously. Ability to perform job duties under limited supervision. Demonstrated proficiency with highly detailed work. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:   
Experience working collaboratively with nearshore fishing communities in Hawai‘i. Ability to plan and facilitate small and large group meetings.
