Oʻahu RC&D is seeking a motivated individual who is passionate about supporting local agriculture to join our team as a Conservation Specialist. The primary role of the Conservation Specialist is to provide technical assistance to agricultural enterprises that wish to address natural resource concerns. A secondary role is to support outreach efforts related to Oʻahu RC&D’s diverse programming. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Prepares Conservation Plans to address natural resource concerns such as erosion, soil quality, and water runoff. Assists with implementation of plans, and provides regular follow up to clients. • Assists with outreach, including field days, fairs and exhibits, service projects, conferences, website updates and news bulletins. • Collaborates with other agencies, colleagues, and organizations to achieve mutual goals. • Develops and establishes good working relationships with external organizations; maintains appropriate rapport with internal and external customers. • Prepares monthly internal activity reports and project reports as appropriate. • Supports a variety of Oʻahu RC&D projects as needed. Qualifications • Enthusiasm and commitment to supporting local agriculture, including a willingness to serve agricultural operations of all sizes, types and locations on Oʻahu, as well as occasional work on neighbor islands. • BA/BS or higher in agriculture or earth sciences, preferably with conservation emphasis. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. • Ability to work collaboratively with partners and colleagues. • Field experience with land conservation issues desirable. • Requires proficiency with computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) desirable. • Strong organizational, writing and analytical skills. • Ability to multi-task and prioritize a busy workflow. Salary Range: $15 - $22 / hr. This is a full time position. Special Requirements: Conservation Specialist will be required to meet with clients and partners at locations outside the office, sometimes on evenings or weekends. Require possession of valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and vehicle insurance coverage. Must be comfortable working in diverse terrain conditions to complete field work efficiently.
