This position leads a staff of approximately 75 incredible Ecological Services' professionals, and, co-located with the fabulous staff of the refuge complex, offers one of the most rewarding leadership positions in the Fish and Wildlife Service. The PIFWO is responsible for an area larger than the contiguous United States (approximately 7 million square miles), which includes the Hawaiian Islands, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and other former trust territories in the Pacific. These areas represent seven political jurisdictions, a myriad of cultures and languages, incredible biodiversity and island endemism, including over 450 federally-listed species.

The Service is seeking a dynamic individual with a solid scientific background, excellent collaboration and communication skills, and strategic vision. This office manages a full range of programs, including: Partners for Fish and Wildlife, Coastal, alternative energy, ESA consultations, on-the-ground recovery projects, habitat conservation planning, listing and candidate conservation, spill response, to name a few.

Experience spectacular volcanic activity, the tallest mountain in the world (from seafloor to summit-Mauna Kea), the deepest place in the ocean (Marianas Trench), the wettest place on Earth (Alakai Swamp), marine sanctuaries, coral reefs, and some of the most diverse, colorful and rarest plant and animal species in the world.
