Hau‘oli Mau Loa Foundation Graduate Fellowship Opportunity Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science

The Hau‘oli Mau Loa Foundation (http://www.hauolimauloa.org/) and the Tropical Conservation Biology and
Environmental Science (TCBES) Graduate Program (http://tcbes.uhh.hawaii.edu/) at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo are pleased to announce the availability of three graduate assistantships for students dedicated to careers in conservation biology and environmental science in the state of  Hawai‘i. Each assistantship comes with generous support for two years (2nd year pending satisfactory academic performance), including a Graduate Assistantship (stipend plus fringe benefits), a full tuition remission, and additional funds to be used for attendance costs (e.g., books, fees, professional development, including travel to local and national conferences, and supplies).  

The overall goal of the Hau‘oli Mau Loa graduate fellowship program in TCBES is to help develop the next generation of environmental leaders (e.g., conservation biologists or environmental scientists) in Hawai‘i. The following eligibility criteria apply: (i) good academic standing (minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the fellowship); (ii) from Hawai‘i, as evidenced by having graduated from a high school in Hawai‘i; (iii) pursuing a M.S. degree in TCBES; (vi) track record of supporting Hawai‘i’s environment (e.g., internships, volunteer opportunities) and serving in a leadership capacity or demonstrated leadership potential (academic, athletic, extracurricular, and/or professional); and (v) commitment to attaining and pursuing a long term career in conservation biology and environmental science in Hawai‘i.

Application Details:  

  • 1. If you are not currently a TCBES graduate student, you must:
    • (a) Apply for TCBES admission by submitting all required materials. The priority deadline is December 1, but applications will be accepted on a rolling basis after the priority deadline until spots are filled.  See the Graduate School Admission website for more information (https://hilo.hawaii.edu/academics/graduate/); and
    • (b) Apply for Hau‘oli Mau Loa graduate fellowship and submit application materials via NeoGov website.  Go to http://tcbes.uhh.hawaii.edu/funding for up‐to‐date information on when NeoGov portal will be open to accept applications. A complete application includes: (1) cover letter explaining how you satisfy the minimum qualifications.  You must clearly express your commitment to and leadership in supporting Hawai‘i’s environment; (2) Curriculum Vitae or resume; (3) names, telephone numbers and email addresses of three [3] professional references; (4) transcript(s) (official transcripts will be required prior to hiring; unofficial transcripts are acceptable for your initial application. 
  • 2. Current TCBES graduate students are eligible to apply, but incoming students are given priority. See 1 (b) for details on the application process above.
