Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.
Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Telework (from employee’s residence city and state) may be permissible subject to review and approval by Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.
DUTIES: Develops multi-year and annual plans to support PCSU Watershed Partnerships (WP) priorities. Writes grant proposals to public and private agencies. Ensures proper accounting and timely completion of grant objectives, and prepares progress and final reports for watershed partnerships. Develops, implements, and maintains projects and outreach programs for watershed partnerships, working cooperatively in coordination with other statewide conservation programs. Serves as main public point of contact for watershed protection issues and works closely with the media, other agencies, organizations, private foundations, and the general public to engender widespread support for watershed initiatives. Maintains regular, consistent media exposure for important watershed management issues including state and local legislation, PCSU WP priority invasive species issues, and land and water management initiatives. Prepares multimedia presentations and press releases. Coordinates PCSU WP meeting logistics and facilitates multi-agency/Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) involvement and collaboration on PCSU WP projects and initiatives.
EDUCATION/TRAINING |
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. |

EXPERIENCE |
Three to five (3-5) years of experience in a leadership, public relations, coordinator, or similar type of position, including project management and environmental outreach. Experience in preparing presentation materials, writing and tracking grants. Experience or familiarity working with control of invasive species and other watershed management activities. |

KNOWLEDGE |
Knowledge of media relations including preparation of media campaigns and press releases for print and electronic media to create and maintain effective public/community relations aimed at protection of Hawai‘i’s ecosystems or culture. |

ABILITIES & SKILLS |
Must be able to write clear, concise reports. Must have excellent communication (both verbally and written) and program management skills to guide and implement an education program. Proficient in the use of word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs to produce documents and reports. (MS Office, Google Suite, etc.). Ability to work effectively with media personnel regarding complex and potentially sensitive issues. Ability to work effectively in a complex organizational structure, requiring sound decisions regarding priorities and workload. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must be able to complete basic helicopter safety course (A100) within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete basic CPR and First Aid course within three (3) months from date of hire. |

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS |
Ability to lift and carry up to thirty (30) pounds unassisted. Ability to hike up to five (5) miles and camp in the field. |

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Education or experience in journalism, marketing, or related field. Knowledge of Hawaiian biota and threats from alien plant and animal invasions in Hawai‘i. Computer skills in presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint), geographic information systems (GIS), databases, and desktop publishing. Experience preparing social media posts for education or outreach.
