The National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) is currently seeking a Conservation Technician to assist with multiple ongoing conservation projects in Limahuli Preserve. These projects include habitat protection, forest restoration, incipient weed control, and vertebrate pest control programs located on the north shore. Primary responsibilities will include out-planting, weed removal, predator control, herbicide application, plant collection, and data entry. Applicant must be willing to spend at least 50% of work time throughout the year in remote overnight field camps, including trips of up to five days duration. Applicant must have a minimum of 1 year of field experience working closely with the management, protection, and identification of Hawaiian flora and fauna. Applicant must be able to lift and carry loads of up to approximately 1/3 of body weight along steep/rugged terrain; and be able to work in inclement weather. Applicant must be willing and able to euthanize trapped animals, and operate firearms safely. Experience in the following is highly desirable: invasive species removal, data entry, using GPS and radio equipment, GIS software, using animal traps, horticultural practices, working with exclusion fences, and working with volunteers. College degree in natural resource management, biology, ecology or closely related field is highly desired. This is a one-year grant-funded position with excellent renewal potential.
