MARINE 30X30 PROGRAM PLANNING ASSOCIATE – ID# 221579. 

Social Science Research Institute.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI). Primary work location will be at the Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR), Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MONTHLY SALARY:  $3,750/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Coordinates meeting logistics for DAR with State and county agencies, scientific community, non-governmental organizations, fishers, ocean users, and community members related  to Hawai‘i’s Holomua: Marine 30x30 Initiative.  Develops content for public outreach, meetings, and presentations related to the Marine 30x30 strategic communication and media plans. Compiles data and reports relating to (existing and potential) marine managed areas in Hawai‘i. Writes and presents working papers, fact sheets, formal and  technical reports, and other materials. Researches problems, issues, and opportunities in particular marine managed areas that could be mitigated through better planning. Interprets and applies applicable State and county rules and regulations. Researches funding opportunities.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Communication, English, Planning, Public Policy, Natural Sciences, or related field.  EXPERIENCE:  Two to four (2-4) years of work experience in planning, writing, communication, or other relevant field. Experience must show documentation of technical writing, such as planning documents, environmental assessments, or similar materials.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Working knowledge of workshop and meeting logistics planning. Knowledge of principles and practices of research and data collection. Knowledge of effective writing techniques. Ability to speak and write clearly, including the ability to analyze and clearly explain data, plans and policies, and draft reports requiring minimal review and editing. Ability to review plans and apply provisions of State and county rules to determine compliance with such regulations and to apply regulations to field condition. Ability to work independently or as part of a team and with diverse user groups cultures and personalities. Ability to respect varying perspectives and be a positive team player. Ability to remain calm and be flexible with changing aspects and needs of job while effectively meeting deadlines. Ability to work on several projects or issues simultaneously. Ability to perform job duties under limited supervision. Demonstrated proficiency with highly detailed work. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to travel to the neighbor islands (including using car rentals) for meetings at short notice as needed. Ability to attend evening and weekend meetings. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Familiar with Hawai‘i’s fishing rules and regulations. Knowledge of marine management area principles. Understanding of the resource management landscape of Hawai‘i. Ability to plan and facilitate small and large group meetings.
