PCSU URBAN FORESTRY COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT – ID# 221495. 

 

Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit.  Regular, Part-Time (35% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), Urban Forestry Project, located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $776.30/Mon (@ 35% FTE). 

 

DUTIES:  Promotes urban and community forestry programs and efforts through educating and presenting to the public. Schedules and coordinates educational briefings to promote Kaulunani community grant projects and programs. Compiles and presents information on projects to other organizations and programs with similar urban and community forestry goals in order to build collaborations and networks. Develops, contributes to, and maintains social media accounts.

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college. (At least two (2) years of college coursework and at least one (1) year of urban and community forestry or similar experience may substitute for an Associate’s Degree.). EXPERIENCE:  One to three (1-3) years of experience working in urban and community forestry, environmental education, or similar field, and developing and implementing outreach and communication strategies.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of Graphic Arts/Design Principles; Good knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Wordpress, Canva, Microsoft Office Suite, and Google suite. Knowledge of common social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Knowledge of natural resources management, conservation, and public education. Ability to manage social media accounts for a program professionally and effectively. Good oral and written communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Ability to initiate, plan, coordinate, and implement urban and community forestry outreach and education, both digitally and in-person. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, advisory council, and the public. Ability to complete assignments on a timely basis. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai`i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to carry at least ten (10) pounds of boxes of printed materials and a presentation table unassisted. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).

 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with DOFAW and USDA Forest Service Programs, policies, and protocols. Specialized experience in working with non-profit and civic organizations involved in urban and community forestry.  Experience working on urban and community forestry projects in Hawai‘i. Experience in event planning. Experience with project management.
