HGGRC GEOTHERMAL GEOLOGY RESEARCH TECHNICIAN – ID# 220569.
School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology. Regular, Full Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawai‘i Institute of Geophysics and Planetology (HIGP), Hawai‘i Play Fairway Project, located on Oahu, Hawai‘i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.
MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,810/Mon.
DUTIES: HGGRC Geothermal Geology Research Technician will participate in research and outreach efforts conducted by the Hawai‘i Groundwater and Geothermal Resources Group (HGGRC) for the duration of available funds. Duties include groundwater sampling and monitoring, geophysical surveying, and hydrogeologic and petrographic drill core analysis. Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for tasks, such as drafting technical reports, environmental assessments, and land use permissions, as well as conducting community outreach. Coordinating and participating in fieldwork assignments will be a significant part of the position, with potential for laboratory involvement.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Geology, Earth Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field. EXPERIENCE: One to three (1-3) years of relevant work experience and field experience. Experience must include experience using ESRI ArcGIS and Microsoft Office. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Knowledge of geologic and hydrologic principles, basic chemistry, and scientific writing. Possesses mapping skills, strong verbal and written communication skills. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift up to twenty (2) pounds unassisted and walk at least one (1) mile at a time.
