For over 25 years, Forest Solutions has been the leading private forestry company in Hawaiʻi and we are again expanding into new projects and need help! We are seeking a motivated forestry and natural resource specialist to help with scaling and improve our forest management projects on Hawaiʻi Island.
We are seeking applicants with experience and formal training in forestry, botany, natural resource management and restoration, and knowledge of Hawaiian native flora and fauna as well as field equipment and operations.
If you are self-motivated, observant, have attention to detail; are able to work independently in rugged conditions, enjoy working as a team to accomplish project goals; and can supervise teams of workers - this might be the position for you!
A bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resource management, biology, botany, or related field or at least 4 years of equivalent experience plus two years of progressive responsible work experience is required.
This fun and engaging position involves:
• Working on some of the largest native restoration projects in the state.
• Targeted control of invasive species across landscapes that are not otherwise accessible to the general public.
• Assisting senior foresters with project development, organization, implementation, field crews, tracking work progress, and inspecting the quality of fieldwork.
• Working alone and/or in teams in remote and rugged terrain and thick forests under inclement weather conditions.
• Supervising field crews, heavy equipment operations, checking that completed work adheres to safety and quality standards.
• Field data collection, long-term monitoring, and inventories that require operating a handheld GPS unit, basic orienteering, and attention to detail.
• Able to drive off-road for long periods of time, lift up to 50lbs, and walk long distances over rugged terrain for up to 6 miles/day.
• Occasional backcountry camping alone or near work location for up to 1 week at a time.
• Communicating verbally with others in an enthusiastic, respectful, and professional manner.
