Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU), located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $4,000-4,800/Mon. 

 

DUTIES:  Provides professional assistance to the Coordinating Group on Alien Pest Species (CGAPS) Statewide Invasive Species Public/Community Relations Coordinator on matters pertinent to CGAPS and related tasks on: (1) biosecurity project planning, implementation, tracking, and review; (2) planning, developing, and conducting or coordinating public outreach and communications; (3) facilitating partner communications; (4) meeting coordination; (5) preparing reports and correspondence; and (6) some fieldwork related to invasive species programs. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biological, Environmental, or related sciences with basic or related biology or natural resource courses.  (Bachelor’s Degree in an unrelated field with an additional three (3) years of experience in project or program planning or management may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree in Biological, Environmental, or related sciences.).  EXPERIENCE:  At least four (4) years of experience in a natural resource-related field, including at least two (2) years of experience in project or program planning or management.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles of ecology and conservation, and of how to implement and monitor a multi-faceted natural resource-related project or program.  Basic understanding of rules and policies pertinent to personnel safety, fiscal, and operational matters.  Excellent organizational, leadership, and communications skills (written, oral, and interpersonal), as well as strong problem-solving, decision-making, and management skills. Strong computer skills in word processing and presentations, basic skills in spreadsheets.  Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. Must possess the American Red Cross Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within three (3) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Able to work outdoors on rough terrain and under adverse weather conditions. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).  

 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Graduate-level coursework from an accredited college or university. Experience working with multiple stakeholders, collaborative management, conflict resolution/negotiation, strategic planning, grant writing, and project management. Knowledge of invasive species threats and impacts to Hawai‘i or elsewhere. Experience working with control of invasive species in Hawai‘i or elsewhere. Demonstrated experience writing natural resource plans, reports and communication pieces. Some experience with public outreach and communications, including social marketing, public speaking, and use of electronic media, such as WordPress and desktop publishing software. Some knowledge of pertinent Federal and State laws and regulations regarding invasive species.
