Executive Director

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an annual budget on a day-to-day basis in conjunction with grant awards to ensure appropriate spending limits and adequate cash flow.

• Secure public and private funding for CCH’s overall priorities and for the estimated annual program and project budgets.

• Manage CCH grant awards to meet deliverables and reporting requirements in a timely and accurate fashion.

• Negotiate and contract with contractors/vendors, purchasing equipment and supplies as provided for in the budget.

• Negotiate all other CCH programmatic grants, contracts, and memoranda of understanding that bind CCH legally and/or financially.

• Engage productively as the state affiliate of the National Wildlife Federation, strategically advocating for support of Hawai‘i conservation issues on a national stage, and working with various NWF programs to build support for Hawai‘i programs.

• Effectively and positively build and interact with all CCH partnerships, alliances and/or coalitions, including effective and regular communication with relevant representatives from the various sectors (e.g., private companies, governments agencies and representatives, communities, scientists, non-profit organizations, etc.) and cultures with which CCH is actively engaged.

• Represent the program internally and externally, reporting to donors, partners, and other interested parties regarding CCH’s projects and activities.

• Communicate strategically with a wide range of people (staff, the public, conservation partners, government agencies, landowners, and donors) who may have an impact on the effectiveness and public image of CCH.

• Foster a healthy organizational culture, to encourage teamwork and collaboration.

​Qualifications

• Passion for the CCH Mission, and dedication to continue building the nearly 70-year-old organization’s integrity and protection of Hawai‘i’s natural resources.

• A BA/BS degree with a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Demonstrated experience with successful fundraising from all sectors including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation; foundation and corporate grants and sponsorships, membership development and event fundraising.

• Experience designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple projects of strategic importance, including managing finances, supervising professional staff, negotiating and supervising contracts with vendors, and coordinating the volunteer program work teams.

• Strong interpersonal skills that include the ability to inspire, motivate and retain staff and dedicated volunteers; effective at volunteer recruitment, team building and conflict management.

• Significant and successful experience in the nonprofit sector, working to serve, support, and take direction from an engaged and involved board of directors.

• Experience working in Hawai’i and the greater Pacific; deep familiarity with conservation issues affecting both marine and terrestrial native Hawaiian wildlife; demonstrated experience working with Hawaiian cultural leaders and values.

• An affinity and sensitivity for working and building collaborative ventures with a culturally and politically diverse communities able to interact seamlessly with legislators, academics, scientists, federal and state government employees, community-based non-profit program managers, and Native Hawaiian community leaders.

• Experience in initiating and maintaining partnership and volunteer development.

• Proven leadership skills developed through several years in senior management positions.

• Excellent organizational development, interpersonal, marketing, communication, public speaking, administration, and personnel management skills.

• Ability to interpret and present information/ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally, and by preparation of reports and other materials.

• Ability to advocate effectively on behalf of an organization on politically sensitive issues and raise the visibility of the organization through outreach to key community stakeholders and the general public.

• Proficiency with the operation of a personal computer, specifically skilled at using Word, Excel, Outlook, Wordpress, and database input, query, and management. Demonstrated proficiency in using social media as an advocacy and membership development tool.
