NATIVE ECOSYSTEM RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – ID# 19411

Social Science Research Institute.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI).  Primary work location will be at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife (DOFAW), Native Ecosystems Protection and Management Section (NEPM) Administrative Office in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

 

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE:  $2,497 - $3,333/Mon. 

 

DUTIES:  Helps coordinate research efforts in areas of high protection and works with resource managers to identify research needs in protected areas. Supports enhancement of external grants process and internal procedures for the Legacy Land Conservation Program website and online grants portal. Assists with compilation of natural resource management tools including using ARC GIS (Geographic Information System) online template to develop a database, integrating online maps. Tracks past and present grant opportunities. Coordinates grant applications between branches, programs, and partners to maximize grant award opportunities. Makes recommendations to improve and streamline grants management, project development, and legislative tracking. Compiles and organizes training material for new DOFAW staff. Must be able to work nights and weekends as needed. 

 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university. 

 

EXPERIENCE:  Experience working on databases, websites, and with ArcGIS. 

 

ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of computers, word processing, spreadsheets, database entry, and website maintenance.  Must possess good written and verbal communication skills, such as following instructions, interpreting materials, and selecting pertinent information. Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and precision. Ability to prioritize work to meet/set deadlines and produce written documents in a timely fashion. Ability to perform job duties under minimal supervision. Ability to work as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of different backgrounds and opinions.  Must have own means of transportation to attend meetings.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience working on environmental management and conservation projects in Hawai‘i. Familiarity with the State’s procurement system and legislative processes. Possess a valid driver’s license.
