There are 2 immediate vacancies within the Division of Aquatic Resources, Department of Land and Natural Resources.

The first vacancy is located in the Aquatic Resources and Environmental Protection Branch and performs a limited range of professional fishery assignments, with its primary focus on developing a State comprehensive review and permitting system and assisting in the review process of permit requests, environmental assessments (EA) and environmental impact statements (EIS).

The second vacancy is located in the Invasive Species and Mitigation Section and supervises lower level fishery positions in the performance of simple and complex technical assignments; and schedules and performs duties in support of the Division's programs, with emphasis on aquatic invasive species (AIS) and mitigation activities.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a major in marine biology, freshwater biology, ecology, zoology or a related biological science and which included a minimum of twenty-four (24) semester credit hours in such courses as fisheries biology, ichthyology, limnology, biological oceanography, marine or freshwater ecology, invertebrate ecology or similar courses applicable to the field of aquatic biology.

Specialized Experience: One year of progressively responsible professional work experience in fishery or aquatic biology which involved the management, conservation, development, utilization and protection of aquatic resources, and/or scientific research dealing with aquatic resources and environment.

Special Requirements: A. For some positions, applicants must possess Advanced Open Water Diver (SCUBA) certification or a higher level SCUBA certification (e.g. rescue diver certification, master diver certification, etc.). Applicants must also pass a medical examination to determine their physical fitness for SCUBA diving, prior to appointment. In addition, the employee must obtain scientific diver certification within the probation period. B. For some positions, applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing 40 to 60 lbs. unassisted, and up to 150 lbs. assisted by another person and/or use of equipment (e.g. hoisting equipment, hand truck), with or without reasonable accommodation. C. A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For these positions, a valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment. NOTE: The vacancy in Halawa to Kalihi requires Advanced Open Water Diver or higher level SCUBA certification, lifting & carrying and a valid driver's license. The vacancy in Downtown requires a valid driver's license.
