Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit (PCSU) and Three Mountain Alliance (TMA), located at the Division of Forestry and Wildlife Hawai‘i Branch in Hilo, Hawai‘i and the Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park in Volcano, Hawai‘i.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $3,200/Mon. 

DUTIES:  Assists with logistical planning, coordination and implementation of TMA environmental education program, ‘Imi Pono no ka ‘Aina, which includes: The Kahuapono: Student enrichment program, Na Kia¿i Kumokuhali¿i: Native forest restoration and service learning program, Ho¿oulu Kaiaulu: Community outreach events, and the Pilina Kumu¿aina: Teacher enrichment program.  All programs place an emphasis on Hawai‘i’s life, cultural and natural history, natural resource management and the preservation of Hawai‘i’s native diversity.  Programs are both field- and classroom-based.  Field activities include demonstrating and participating in natural resource management activities, including reforestation, weed control, native plant surveys, native bird surveys, and trail building, which involves hiking over moderately rugged terrain, carrying heavy packs and equipment, and potentially working in inclement weather.  Classroom activities include presentations and workshops.  Assists with media outreach.  Ensures that all reporting and record keeping on events are maintained. Must be able to work nights and weekends, and occasionally camp for multiple nights in a row with student and community participants. 

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Biology, Education, Hawaiian Studies or related field.  EXPERIENCE:  At least one (1) year of experience working in environmental education, conservation, natural resource management, or a related field.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of natural resource processes. Knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Hawai‘i.  Knowledge of Hawaiian culture, including cultural practices, language, and protocol.  Considerable knowledge of word processing and desktop publishing software, including Microsoft Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word) and Adobe graphic design programs (InDesign and Photoshop).  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with program participants, community members, and program collaborators.  Must be organized and able to manage multiple projects and overlapping deadlines.  Must work effectively independently and in a collaborative team environment.  Must be comfortable participating in and leading Hawaiian cultural protocol, including request for entrance and gratitude chants. Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission.  Post Offer/Employment Conditions:  Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.  Must possess Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire) and maintain throughout duration of employment.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Must be able to work in varying weather conditions (e.g., rain, cold, heat, mud, etc.) and carry heavy (at least 50 pounds assisted) tools and supplies across rough terrain.  Must be able to hike long distances (>1 mile) in inclement weather conditions. POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:  As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai‘i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures.  Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.). 

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience working with students that are ages 12 to 18.  Experience working in environmental education in Hawai‘i. Experience in Hawaiian culture, including cultural practices, language, and protocol.   Experience creating materials using graphic design software, such as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop. Skilled in native plant and animal identification.
