The Hui Makaʻāinana o Makana is a non-profit organization dedicated to perpetuating and
teaching the skills, knowledge, and practices of our kupuna through the interpretation,
restoration, care and protection of the natural and cultural resources within the Hā‘ena State Park
(our mission statement). We do this through malama ‘āina activities in Hā‘ena State Park and
the near shore fishery of Hā‘ena.

This part-time position reports to the President of the Board of Directors of the Hui, and will
oversee and manage all aspects of operations of the Hui while working closely with the Hui
Board of Directors and the ‘Ohana Council.

 

Minimum Qualifications Include:
Bachelors degree in Hawaiian Studies, Natural Resource Management, Horticulture, Botany,
Ethnobotany, Fishery Management, Nonprofit Management, or 10 years of experience in
nonprofit management. Experience in nonprofit management and governance, tropical
horticulture or agriculture, knowledge of Hawaiian culture, are all valued assets that will be
considered in selecting the ideal candidate.

Experience working with Hawaiian cultural practitioners, and a familiarity with the Hawaiian
language is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills, managerial experience,
computer competence, and successful grant writing are required. The successful applicant must
demonstrate the ability to collaboratively work with a multicultural community, Hawaiian
cultural experts, and a multidisciplinary team of scientists, educators, and conservationists. Must
also be highly motivated, well organized, and a team player.
