Description of Opportunity

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Assist in watershed restoration projects including working with local farmers, conservation planning, hosting workshops, etc. in the Waimānalo watershed
• Provide information to individuals and the general public on natural resource management topics like soil erosion, soil quality, and water quality and watershed health.
• Prepare Conservation Plans to address natural resource concerns such as erosion, soil quality, and water runoff, and assist with implementation of plans, and provide regular follow up to clients.
• Assist with outreach, including field days, fairs and exhibits, service projects, conferences, website updates and news bulletins.
• Collaborate with other agencies, colleagues, and organizations to achieve mutual goals.
• Develop good working relationships with external organizations and with internal / external clients.
• Prepare monthly internal activity reports and project reports as appropriate.
• Support a variety of Oʻahu RC&D projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
• Passion and commitment to supporting local agriculture, including a willingness to serve agricultural operations of all sizes, types and locations on Oʻahu as well as occasional work on neighbor islands.
• College degree and / or equivalent experience with agriculture, environmental sciences, or conservation.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of people in a respectful and relaxed manner.
• Ability to work collaboratively with partners and colleagues.
• Field experience with land conservation issues helpful.
• Competence with basic computer programs (i.e. email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Strong organizational, writing and analytical skills.
• Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
• Community connections within project areas (Waimānalo specifically).
• Basic understanding of processes used to draft technical/strategic plans.
Salary Range: $15 - $22 / hour dependent upon experience.
Special Requirements: Employee will be required to meet with clients and partners at locations outside the office, sometimes on evenings or weekends. Many of the duties are performed in the field, requiring the ability to walk diverse terrain, including some bending, stooping, and lifting (less than 50 pounds). A portion of the duties are performed in an office setting. The employee must have a current valid driver’s license and automobile insurance and furnish his or her own car.
