Description of Opportunity

This position is located in the National Ocean Service (NOS), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries (ONMS) and is for one vacancy located in Pago Pago, American Samoa.

This position is also announced under vacancy number NOS-NMSP-2019-0008, which is open to all US Citizens or Nationals. You must apply to both announcements if you want to be considered for both.

As a Sanctuary Research Coordinator, you will perform the following duties:

  • Assist in the formulation, development, implementation, facilitation, and coordination of monitoring and research projects and activities designed to meet the research goals of the sanctuary including annual operating plans, data analysis, and report writing.
  • Participate in collaboration with federal and state agencies, non-government organizations, and the private sector to meet the characterization, monitoring and research goals of the sanctuary.
  • Communicate scientific results to a variety of audiences by working with sanctuary staff to ensure the public is informed about research/monitoring efforts and findings.
  • Assist in budgeting, funding applications, and research permitting.
