Work on an interdisciplinary team and provide labor for resource management projects. You can play a role in the park’s program to preserve and restore native ecosystems by repairing fences that control alien animals, clearing alien vegetation, and assisting with preservation of the park landscape and archeological sites. Major duties include fencing replacement and repair (45%) and maintaining and preserving historic park trails (45%). Additional duties (10%) may include work on preservation and stabilization projects such as native plant restoration, thatching and lashing traditional Hawaiian structures, and dryset stone masonry.
Supervision will be under the Integrated Resources Program Manager. The Work Leader will mentor the you, demonstrate work practices, and correct deficiencies under the guidance of the Manager. You may use cutting tools including loppers, shears, or chainsaw and may, with the completion of training, apply pesticides as directed and may assist with alien plant and animal control.
The work requires strenuous physical activity including walking to remote work sites over rough terrain carrying tools and backpacks, climbing over rocks, frequent bending at the waist, constant use of hands, while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). The work is outside, temperatures are hot and inclement weather may be encountered. You may be in close proximity to areas where pesticides or other chemicals are in use which will require PPE. You will maintain safety awareness, follow instructions, and take required precautions.

Applicant Requirements:
1. Age - Applicants must be at least 17 years of age by the start date of the service term (due to AmeriCorps regulations).
2. Diploma - Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
3. Citizenship - Applicants must be one of the following: a US Citizen, US National, or Lawful Permanent Resident Alien (due to AmeriCorps regulations).
5. Housing/Transportation - Applicants must have their own personal housing and transportation arrangements on-island.
