Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

WHAT WE DO

We do invasive plant removals and marine debris removals here.  Although less common these days, this site in particular is impacted by pallet bonfires that leave nails and often broken glass in the sand.  Bad news! We will clean up any bonfires we find, then we will begin work on invasive plant removals and marine debris removals.

Our restoration work is also part of our collaboration with the State Department of Land and Natural Resources and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to protect an Endangered Species- the Hawaiian Yellow-Faced Bee! You can learn more about this exact site we will be working at here: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2016/10/bees-endangered-species-hawaii-yellow-faced0/

If water conditions are calm enough (usually not), we’ll do marine debris removal (fishing line/lead/plastics) from various coves at Kaʻiwi. Strong swimming skills a must for this site!

Please arrive PROMPTLY by 4 PM- otherwise you will find us out in the work area until 6 PM.

WHAT TO BRING

All cleanup supplies will be provided to you by 808 Cleanups.

Wear sturdy, fully enclosed shoes to protect your feet from potential nails, broken glass, and kiawe thorns.  If you want to get involved in removing invasive plants during this session, pants and even long sleeve shirts are highly recommended.  Kiawe thorns are no joke!  Hand and power tools will be provided along with safety training.  Please wear gloves, safety glasses at all times and follow all safety guidelines!

Please bring your own mask and fins if you plan to participate in the marine debris segment. Strong swimming skills a must for this site!
