Become part of Hawaii’s conservation story

Ready to join an enthusiastic team of volunteers dedicated to helping Maui’s wetland creatures and habitat?

At Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, volunteers preserve native plants, restore wetland ecosystems, and educate visitors about Maui’s native species and landscape. Keālia Pond’s wetland ecosystem is precious habitat for endangered Hawaiian ae‘o and ‘alae ke‘oke‘o populations.

If you are passionate about native Hawaiian species and helping people appreciate the outdoors, Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge is looking for interested individuals to join our volunteer team. We offer a unique wetland environment teeming with birds, insects, and plants; hands-on learning opportunities, and meaningful outdoor experiences.

Available opportunities include habitat restoration efforts, docent opportunities, and assisting with maintenance efforts. Volunteers typically commit to a weekly 3-hour shift between Monday and Friday. Volunteer groups may also request a volunteer service day on weekdays or Saturdays. Your volunteer support will help preserve one of Maui’s unique remaining wetlands at Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. Contact Courtney Brown (courtney_brown@fws.gov) or call 808-875-1582 for more information about available opportunities.
