Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawai‘i’s conservation agencies and landowners in an effective and culturally sensitive manner. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaiʻi.

We are currently seeking applicants for the Conservation Field Crew Member position. The ideal candidate will exhibit the values that steer our organization: character, humility, ʻohana (family/community-mindedness), service, excellence, and nobility. A Conservation Field Crew Member will act in the best interest of the company, act in the best interest of other employees, and act in a fair, safe, effective, and legal manner.

A Conservation Field Crew Member will carry out general conservation field work at various locations on Maui under close supervision by a Crew Leader and/or Project Manager. Experience is highly preferred in the following areas:
• Intense hiking and/or hunting
• Ungulate-proof fence construction
• Invasive species removal to protect/enhance native species populations
• Field data collection/recording and operating GPS devices
• Native/non-native species identification
• Maintenance of trails
• Other general field work using hand and power tools

Required Qualifications

  • Hold an interest in preserving Hawaiʻi’s native plants, animals, and ecosystems
  • Possess a positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Give 100% effort each day
  • Be responsible and follow directions while working in small teams or independently
  • Be experienced, willing, and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8-10 hours a day
  • Be able to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance
  • Be able to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Be able to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel occasionally
  • Openly communicate observations/questions to fellow Crew Members, Crew Leader, and/or Project Manager
  • Be familiar with and able to identify native and invasive species to Hawaiʻi (preferred)
  • Have experience utilizing topographic maps and GPS/GIS systems (preferred)

Employment Category

  • Part-time hourly (15-30 hours per week; largely dependent on weather)

Compensation

  • Minimum pay is $11/hour (varies by project)
